Café Ziryab
In the Madrid neighborhood of Embajadores is the Café Ziryab, a modern flamenco tablao that presents an intense program dedicated to great artists of the genre, who perform in a flamenco troupe format and are usually attended by prominent guest artists.
Café Ziryab offers one of the most affordable flamenco shows in Madrid with the aim of facilitating access to all audiences. The recitals of cante and toque, as well as the palos and styles of cante jondo mesmerize the audience of what is probably the least crowded tablao in the capital.
Opened in 2015, Café Ziryab is a more informal flamenco tablao than usual in a charming setting. Less touristy, simpler and closer, it has the direction of a bailaora and great fan of the genre, Anja Vollhardt, who has personally selected the great artists of a lineup that usually includes two dancers, a singer and a guitarist. The viewer will find in Ziryab an honest flamenco in which artists, groups of friends and fans of the genre enjoy 80-minute evenings every night in which emotion, originality and joy are guaranteed.
The tablao has a 16-square-meter stage with the ideal height for spectators to enjoy every detail, including the zapateo. The room has 80 seats, at tables and chairs scattered around the premises so that all spectators can enjoy an optimal view. They have an outdoor terrace where you can have a drink, as well as a menu of cold tapas and sausages that are paired with a careful selection of wines.
On Wednesdays they present a 90-minute educational show in which the artists answer questions from the audience and explain aspects of this centuries-old art form. They also offer flamenco classes, with two levels of specialization taught by dancer Maximiliano Rebman.
