Experience the majesty of century-old trees

Discover a charming natural spot without leaving the city. Region of Madrid

Today we are going to talk about majestic and slender bearing but, in this case, we are not referring to that of a bailaor about to perform in one of our tablaos flamenco tablaosbut that of a tree that, as a whole, forms one of the most unique forests of the Region of Madrid, the beech.

The Fagus Sylvatica or common beech, which means "the tree of the forests", is the protagonist of the Montejo beech forest, a centuries-old meadow that joins the other four World Heritage Sites. World Heritage Sites that can be found at Region of Madrid.

Located about 100 km north of Madrid, this is a very sensitive Protected Natural Area that is part of the Sierra del Rincón Biosphere Reserve. Sierra del Rincón Biosphere Reserve.. Due to its popularity, and the need to protect its ecology, the Montejo Beech Forest is currently managed by an Environmental Education Program, and can only be visited by taking a free guided tour with environmental educators, who will show you the magic of these ancient trees. To get there from Madrid it is best to do it by car and, through this link, you can make a reservation in advance for your visit.

The guided tour usually lasts two hours maximum, and you can choose different paths, being the Senda del Río the most recommended for the first visit to the beech forest as it is the easiest. On this tour you will get to know the rock beech, the most emblematic tree of the complex, 250 years old and 15 meters high.

And, although the idea of visiting the beech forest in autumn to get the photo of orange and ocher tones is idyllic, we suggest you enjoy the fairytale landscape at other times of the year with fewer visitors. In this way you will help the sustainability of this forest while still enjoying the majesty and beauty of its flora and fauna.

In short, either by the tradition that is lived every night in its tablaos, or by the tablaos or for the majesty of its natural landscapes, the Region of Madrid is more than you expect.
