The guitar and guitar makers
In Madrid there is an ancient tradition of artisans of this instrument and the Madrid school of guitar makers has produced fundamental names in the history of the flamenco guitar.
Since the end of the 19th century, guitarists have had their own name in the history of flamenco. At the beginning of the 20th century, the first methods for interpreters appeared, such as Rafael Marín's method in 1902.
One of the main promoters of the instrument was the Madrid guitarist Ramón Montoya, who incorporated new techniques and consolidated the toque as a soloist. Later, the list of influential guitarists could continue with Sabicas, Niño Ricardo, the also from Madrid Serranito, Manolo Sanlúcar or Paco de Lucía. Nowadays, the quantity and quality of flamenco guitarists has reached the highest levels of evolution and virtuosity.
The characteristics of the construction of the modern flamenco guitar were established at the beginning of the 20th century in the workshops of the guitar makers of Madrid, where the so-called tablao guitar was created in the Casa Ramirez , whose family saga continues to manufacture guitars.
