The tablaos of Madrid

The tablaos of Madrid are a school of learning, creativity and competence for flamenco artists where the warmth of the audience is an essential part of communication.

The first tablaos were born in Madrid in the mid 50s of the twentieth century. Mythical names such as Zambra, considered the first, or El Corral de La Morería founded shortly after, picked up the baton of the historic cafés cantantes or colmaos that are in the memory as Los Gabrieles or Villa Rosa.

The history of flamenco has been written in gold letters on its walls in Madrid. For decades, most of the flamenco artists have passed through these unique spaces. The most important have performed daily on its stages. The list would be endless and includes illustrious artists such as Camarón de la Isla, Enrique Morente, El Lebrijano, Terremoto, Antonio Gades, La Paquera...

Madrid has been and is a land of opportunities, learning and creativity and its tablaos are a school of coexistence, but also of competition, for flamenco artists.
