El grito jondo

When the singing is a cry, an intense lament, the term "Cante jondo" is used, an expressive form to transmit the deepest emotions.

The greatest expressive capacity, the deepest, the one that comes from the heart, is in the throat of the cantaores and cantaoras. It is a cry that often represents the voice of all of us, normally associated with primitive songs without guitar accompaniment such as tonás, songs of hard trades such as the fragüeros or the tasks of the field, or when singing seguiriya or soleá.

The so-called quejío, that part of the cante that says ¡ay¡, is a way of complaining, of showing the pain that brings us closer to the soul of the human being. In the gypsy song there are traces that express the heritage of ancient persecutions, of their fatigues and sorrows.
